Student College of Clinical Pharmacy (SCCP)
Welcome to SCCP-Pacific’s ASP Website page!
The Student College of Clinical Pharmacy [SCCP] is the student-led chapter of the nationally-recognized American College of Clinical Pharmacy [ACCP] at the University of the Pacific Thomas J.Long School of Pharmacy.
Our goal as SCCP-Pacific is to provide our members with the opportunity to develop their clinical skills, and broaden their knowledge of what clinical pharmacy is all about! The organization helps to prepare students to become competitive applicants for fellowships and residencies, and competent future clinical pharmacists!
Clinical pharmacy is the field of pharmacy that specializes in optimizing patient care with careful lab and symptom monitoring, analysis of medication regimen, and even incorporation of lifestyle modifications and recommendations! Clinical pharmacists have the opportunity to be advocates for patients by being part of an interdisciplinary team that is centered around providing individualized quality of care.
Membership of SCCP-Pacific not only includes our student-led chapter [SCCP-Pacific], but it connects you with our Northern California of Clinical Pharmacy chapter [NCCCP] in addition to our national chapter [ACCP]. Through ACCP, you can connect with practicing clinical pharmacists in a program that is known as Practice and Research Networks [PRNs], which are focus groups centered around a clinical pharmacy specialty. There are also CV Reviews and Letter of Intent Reviews, which are online resources to hone in on student preparation for their future endeavors, such as residencies and fellowships.
Our organization strives to give our members a glimpse of different clinical pharmacy specialties from different healthcare settings through our clinical speaker panels, pharmacy mixer, and healthcare system panels! The organization also hosts many of the research series and annual research symposium for students to learn more about future applications and approaches to modern medicine and to network with faculty and students to be part of the future developments in pharmacy!
The organization also wants to provide their members with the experiences of applying their didactics into practice through our local competitions such as the ACCP Clinical Research Challenge and ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenges! Winners of our local competition will represent UOP in the national competition in the annual conference! In the future, we also want to host a local SOAP note competition to test participants’ ability to work up clinical patient cases to simulate real-world scenarios in the practice of clinical pharmacy!
We want to provide our members with student development programs as well as a networking opportunity through CV Review workshops and Residency Mock Interviews. There will be an opportunity to also meet different practice pharmacists that is tailored to the interest of the participants through matching systems!
Lastly, SCCP-Pacific wants to tailor our organization’s development to its active members! We host Membership Appreciation dinners as well as De-Stress events to create a community of student pharmacists that can rely on one another.
